Model: Marah Rice, MarahCAR
Marah Rice is a model, stylist, and the creative director behind MarahCAR. On her blog, she features affordable styles and seeks to inspire her readers in all aspects of life. I recently met with Marah to discuss fashion, purpose, and more.
TR: Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Atlanta?
I was born in Michigan, raised in Kentucky. I just moved to Atlanta in August of 2015, so I’ve been here almost a year now!
TR: What to you love most about Atlanta?
I love that Atlanta is so different than what you would think or expect. There are so many really cool areas with a lot going on! There is always something new to try or something to get involved in.
TR: What are your thoughts on the fashion scene in Atlanta?
There is such a wide variety of styles and diversity in Atlanta. I don’t think you could ever really feel out of place because people really just express themselves in so many different ways. I love that about Atlanta. There isn’t a ton of judgement and I feel like people really support individuality here.
TR: Who was your first style icon?
My mother. She instilled in me my love for classic styles and vintage. I was always borrowing something from her closet growing up and still do to this day! Aside from her, I was obsessed with everything Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen wore/did and of course, they still are some of the greatest names in Fashion today!
TR: I really love how eclectic your style is. On your blog, I noticed everything from bohemian-inspired outfits to a lot denim mixed with a variety of shoes/accessories. How would you describe your personal style?
Comfortable, practical, edgy, simple. I definitely tend to lean more towards casual basics and sporty looks then spruce up the outfit with edgy accessories and some cool shoes or sneakers. I am not much of a “girly-girl”. I have always been an athlete and my mom loves to tell everyone about how I refused to wear bows, lace, or anything pink growing up. Those boundaries are still pretty much set to this day! Haha.
TR: What are your favorite pair of sneakers?
Oh, man, that’s so hard! Haha. It honestly depends on my mood. I love my Adidas Stan Smiths and my Black and gum retro Air Jordan 1’s. But I have an ongoing list of sneakers I want to add to my collection!
TR: What is a personal truth you have about fashion?
Fashion is a personal expression and representation of you! If you don’t feel good in something, don’t wear it and if you don’t LOVE it, don’t buy it. Maybe I tend to play it on the safer side, but I know what I like and what I feel good in and at the end of the day, how I feel in the clothes is what matters. It will show if you feel confident in what you’re wearing and people will definitely notice.
TR: What inspired you to create MarahCAR?
I have always loved fashion. I can remember designing my own “fashion magazine” (all hand-written and drawn on white plain paper and stapled together!) when I was young, probably around 10 or 11 years old, and I was always sketching clothing ideas. After college I was working in an office every day and just really wanted a creative outlet. I love sharing my style and just my personal experiences with people. It’s my own little spot that really represents who I am and allows me to share all of my passions in one place! I aspire to inspire and I hope MarahCAR does that!
TR: In the future, where do you hope your blog will take you?
I would love to be able to blog full time eventually, especially one day when I have a family and kids so that I could stay at home with them. Obviously that’s the ideal situation. I would love to be able to travel and see so many places around the world that I have dreamed about and to network and attend blogger and fashion events! I have a lot of hopes and dreams for MarahCAR but I think for now, I’ll just continue enjoying it and see where it goes!
TR: What does “purpose" mean to you and what would you say is your purpose?
My purpose is powered by my faith in God. As a Christian, my purpose is to love and serve and share Christ’s love with others and if I can use my blog as a platform to do so, then all the better! As an overall purpose, I really have a passion to inspire, to motivate, and to help people. I don’t know exactly where that will take me but I am excited to see what God has in store for me!
