Atlanta Fashion Series V
Model: Harrison Sapp, Gilty As Charged
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Atlanta style blogger Harrison Sapp. She started her blog, Gilty As Charged, two years ago and has already made her presence felt as a model and fashion insider. In 2013, she was named one of JEZEBEL Magazine's 20 Most Eligible Atlantans. Check out the interview below to learn a little more about Harrison and GILTY.
TR: Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Atlanta?
I am originally from little ol’ Spartanburg, South Carolina. I graduated from The College of Charleston in 2008 and moved up to Boston. After having enough snow to last me a lifetime, I moved back South to Atlanta in 2012 and have been here ever since!
TR: What to you love most about Atlanta?
I love that Atlanta has all the perks of a big city…great shopping, amazing restaurants, but it is still in the South so we get the great weather and friendlier faces, as well. It is the perfect happy medium for me, having lived in both small towns and larger cities.
TR: What are your thoughts on the fashion scene in Atlanta?
I think the fashion scene in Atlanta is growing like crazy! I love that we have publications like Jezebel Magazine that highlight street style, and there is such a huge blog scene here. We’re very lucky, there is a ton of inspiration in Atlanta.
TR: What is your favorite place to travel?
Miami. I love the beach, but I also love that you can get as dressed up for dinner as you like and no one will look twice at you. You can get away with wearing anything and everything in Miami!
TR: Who was your first style icon?
Jessica Simpson was probably the first style icon I wanted to emulate! haha Newlyweds was my favorite show back then. Her blonde was always perfect and I loved the way she could look flawless in everything from her husband’s t-shirt to a fitted jumpsuit.
TR: How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style changes all the time, but I would describe it as cool and comfortable with an edge. You can find me in anything from a leather jacket and heels to a destroyed pair of denim shorts and slides. When it comes to fashion, I don’t discriminate.
TR: What is a personal truth you have about fashion?
My biggest personal truth when it comes to fashion is this: If you like it, wear it. I live by this. People aren’t always going to “get” your style, but that’s the beauty of it! It’s YOURS.
TR: What is a staple clothing item you feel every lady must have?
For me, my staple clothing item is a great pair of denim shorts. The cut has to be just right to be flattering enough to wear from day to night. I absolutely LIVE in mine in the summertime. That’s the Southern tomboy still in me, I guess!
TR: What inspired you to create Gilty As Charged?
I was inspired to create GILTY when I started getting tons of hits on my Instagram account for outfits I was already posting. I modeled for most of my life, but was never tall enough to do anything big time. This was a way I could combine my love for clothes and being in front of the camera. I had been interested in starting a blog forever, but was terrified I wouldn’t have enough to say! I just decided to go for it.
TR: How would you describe your blogging style?
I would describe my blogging style as honest. I try to keep it light and fun and talk to my readers (my Gilties!) just as I would talk to my friends. I want to be approachable.
TR: In the future, where do you hope your blog will take you?
I would absolutely love to blog full time, but if that is not meant to be, I just hope it continues to help me work on my creative side all while making amazing connections like you!
